Is There Such a Thing as a Healthy Butt Shape?

The concept of the “ideal” butt has changed many times during the last century. Through the years, ideal butts alternated between big and round to flat, angular, toned and round and to very curvy. Like the face and skin, a woman’s rear goes through many shifts and changes during life. Here’s a quick look at different butt types and what they may indicate physically.

H Shape Butt

A square- or H-shaped rear could mean many things, including out of shape glues, higher, more prominent hip bones or a body with a tendency to store fat around the waist and love handles. Simple core and glute exercises can help tighten up and tone loose or underdeveloped glute muscles.

O Shape Butt

A circlular or “O” shape usually indicates a healthy butt, but it can also mean extra fat storage right above the glutes.

A Shape Butt

The heart/pear or “A” shape butt is fullest the lowest point and tapers inward near the waist, although extra fat may be obvious in the upper thighs. This shape is believed to be the result of a high level of estrogen in the body. This bottom type also tends to lose fat faster when women age. With time, it will move to the mid-section. Getting extra fat out now may be best for future health.

V Shape Butt

A bottom shaped like an inverted “V” is most common in older women, as the fat starts to move to other areas of the body due to falling estrogen levels. Women with this butt shape should be especially careful to stick to a healthy diet and exercise regularly in order to best protect the heart as the fat tends to move northward.

Having a larger than average butt is far from being a bad thing, and there are several healthy, non-invasive ways to improve the appearance of that area. All butt shapes can be improved with the glute workouts, but even a well-toned rear end does not necessarily mean a cellulite-free one. While a growing number of women enjoy endermologie® treatments, there is another method of reducing the appearance of cellulite.
